The Pandas Podcast

I'm putting together an audio dramatization of the Kitzmiller v. Dover Board of Education trial, also known as the Pandas trial. This work will be licensed under a Creative Commons license, and will also be podcast.

Casting Call

The Pandas podcast needs your help! If you'd like to contribute:

  1. Grab a copy of the transcripts, which we'll be using as the script, from one of the following sites:
  2. Look over the cast of characters and see which roles you'd like to read. I realize that a lot of the parts are long, so there'll be cast changes. That is, you might play Eric Rothschild in day 1, morning session, and someone else will play him in the afternoon session (obviously, if you'd like to play a given character in several or all episodes, that's great).
  3. Prepare a "demo tape": choose a character, pick a passage in the transcript, and read your character's lines for five minutes or so. Record yourself doing so. Send me email (arensb@ooblick.com) and send me the URL of your recording (or talk to me and we'll work out some other way of getting me the file).
  4. You may also want to subscribe to the pandas-chat mailing list: just send mail to majordomo@ooblick.com, with the line
    subscribe pandas-chat
in the body. You'll receive a response asking for confirmation. Follow the instructions in that message.

Questions

Q: You're not going to do the entire trial, are you?

A: Yes, actually.

Q: I'd love to help, but some of those parts are long.

A: That's why I don't expect the cast to stay constant. You can volunteer to play a character in only one session, if that's all you want to do.

Q: I'd love to help, but I have no theater experience.

A: My standards aren't that high. Think of this as Internet community theater: you don't need to be a Tony award winner to apply. If you can record your part and not sound too much as if you're reading, give it a shot!

Q: I'd love to help, but I have a strong Australian/Canadian/Scottish/whatever accent, and all of the characters are Americans.

Don't worry about it. It'll make it easier for listeners to keep track of the characters.

Q: I'd love to help, but I'm no good at computer stuff.

A: Just record your part and get it to me, and I'll take it from there.

Q: I can't read my way out of a paper bag. I do know tech stuff, though. Is there anything I can do to help?

A: Maybe. There will probably be unforeseen problems. Drop me a line and I'll call for help if I need it.

Q: I have a question that isn't listed above.

A: I'm not surprised. Drop me a line at arensb@ooblick.com and ask.
